We took a wonderful family vacation to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. And I must say….. I fell in love. In love with the Rockie’s, in love with the people, in love with Colorado. Now, I just have to wait for my hubby to retire and I’m on my way. To me, there’s no more beautiful place ever. And I gotta tell ya, living with no humidity for over a week was enough to spoil a girl!

Cale turns 1

Cale had a one year session at his home. I love these lifestyle portrait sessions! The kids are so much fun and uninhibited! He did a terrific job! And who would have thought, that Cheerios were SUCH a hit! I mean seriously! This kid is CRAZY over Cheerios like nobody’s business! When all else failed…. dad knew just what was needed. A trip to the kitchen floor and those little crunchy O’s! :)

Thanks again Luke and Jenna, I always have the best time with your boys. :) Can’t wait to hear all about Cale’s birthday party!

Easter in the Park

The City of Trenton and the Downtown Improvement Project held an Easter Egg Hunt in the Sesquicentennial Park on Saturday morning. There were LOTS of children in attendance and TONS of candy and toys and other special prizes donated from the community to make this little event a huge success! :) The Easter Bunny was on site and I had the privilege to take pictures of the kiddos while they scrambled to fill their baskets with goodies!

I wanted everyone to be able to have these photos for FREE! A gallery has been set up where you can right click on the photos and save them to your computer to use for printing, scrapbooks, whatever you desire! So, click on over HERE and search the gallery for your kiddos! Share them with friends and family. Please be patient over the next day or two while I’m trying to load everything. I took over 200 photos Saturday morning so there will surely be something for everyone.

These photos are also posted on our facebook page in an album labeled Easter so you can find them there and save them to your profiles and tag your friends and family too.

Thanks again to Debbie and the rest of the planning team for asking me to be a part of this event! I had a lot of fun and my son enjoyed the festivities. It just added to the candy pile that we’ll have around for weeks to come.

I want to say a BIG thank you also to the sponsors that my son received prizes from: McDonald’s, Subway and Taco Bell/KFC. I’m looking forward to using those freebies for after school snacks when he ‘just can’t stand it mom! I’m starvin!’ ;)

Yes, you read that right! It’s FREE! It’s BETH MOORE!!!

The Blue Ridge Christian Union is hosting a simulcast presentation of Beth Moore on April 24th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church. For those of you wondering where that is…. you may have blinked and missed it on your way to Bethany. ;o) So, not far at all! If you are local to Trenton you are about 30 minutes from this event.

I had planned to attend the conference called “So Long Insecurity” (you’ve probably seen or heard about Beth’s newest book!) and now, due to other obligations I can’t go. Found this online (plus I subscribe to Real Simple magazine! It’s awesome!) and thought everyone would like to take a peak! The one thing people ask about their photo sessions is what to wear! I always suggest avoiding prints and plaids as you want the people to be the focus of your portrait, not their wardrobe. So here are some suggestions to help you when choosing your outfit for your next session! :)

The 4 Universally Flattering Clothing Colors

Some hues bring out the best in everyone, regardless of skin tone or hair color.

Flattering Color: Eggplant

“Some colors work for all skin tones and hair colors, because they fall into the middle of the color spectrum, meaning they’re not too warm or too cool,” says Leatrice Eiseman, author of The Color Answer Book (Capital Books, $20, amazon.com) and director of the Pantone Color Institute, the international authority on color. Case in point: eggplant (Pantone 19-2311 TC). Eiseman calls the tone “the perfect purple” because it is extremely versatile, almost like a black, a dark brown, or a navy.

Flattering Color: True Red

Designer Bill Blass once said, “When in doubt, wear red.” And he was right. Not only does red stop traffic but it may also make you a winner. In a study conducted at the University of Durham, in England, researchers found that athletes in combative sporting competitions who wore red were more apt to win than contestants wearing other colors. Pantone 19-1664 TC flatters everyone because it “resides in the center of the color spectrum, in between a cool cherry red and a warm, orangey tomato red,” says New York City makeup artist Sonia Kashuk.

Flattering Color: Indian Teal

Colors on opposite sides of the color wheel enhance each other, which is why strawberries look so good packaged in green containers, Eiseman says. It’s not surprising that this teal-Pantone 19-4227 TC, the color-wheel opposite of pink-plays up a healthy flush in the skin. Plus, it’s more versatile than a bright, summery turquoise, so you can wear it well into the fall with black, brown, and other neutrals.

Flattering Color: Mellow Rose

Sorry, Pretty in Pink fans, but Molly Ringwald did not look all that great in her bubble-gum pink prom dress. She should have opted for a more sophisticated shade, somewhere between a light pink and a peach, which looks more like a neutral than a pastel. The subtle color (Pantone 15-1515 TC) highlights the natural flush of one’s face, says Kashuk, giving anyone who wears it a glow. No wonder Kashuk recommends a similar shade of lipstick to all her clients.

How did it happen? That my babies are growing up? My little girl will graduate this year from high school and parents can purchase a tribute in the yearbook for their child. Of course, being the photographer’s kid I couldn’t just send snapshots…. I had to design one myself. My little chubby, 9 lb baby has grown into a beautiful young woman whom I am so VERY proud of.

I don’t know how all these years flew by in the blink of an eye.

Watching her learn to use her spoon. She was always the MESSIEST child.

Watching her learn to read, now that was amazing. She wasn’t even 4.

Seeing her daddy teaching her to ride her first ‘big girl’ bike.

Feeling my heart sink deep into the pit of my stomach the first time she was thrown from her horse…. and bounced off the ground face first.

Praying as I taught her how to drive.

Looking into her eyes the first time she rode an airplane and her nerves settled.

Marveling at her amazing spirit and heart when she learned what loving like Christ is all about…. in Haiti.

And now…. now I’m expected to let go of her. Watch her become the woman we have raised her to be. The hardest and most rewarding part of all.

Bittersweet.

I’m so thankful that God allowed me to raise his precious girl. Because after all, she doesn’t belong to me, I was just blessed to be her mother.

Levi Silkwood had to do a project for school and ask for my help with some photoshop techniques. This is the AMAZING photo that he took and we did very little work to it. The boy has an eye! And a love for our Lord. Thank you Levi for sharing this photo with me. It’s truly beautiful and I love it!!!!

Some of you who know me are aware that we sponsored a girl from Haiti while there on our mission trip this past summer. Her name is Smeralda. She is a beautiful child of God. :) Some of the missionaries from our group will be returning to Haiti in April and as I was preparing a care package to go back to Smeralda I had an idea. Smeralda is 7 years old, and is in primary school.

An idea of Smeralda meeting children her own age in America. How to do that? I ask Ms. Murphy’s 1st and 2nd grade class to send her drawings and letters from their class. I went to the school and shared photos from our trip of Smeralda, her family, her ‘neighborhood’, homes and her school that we helped work on. They were FULL of questions for me!

Ms. Murphy sent the pictures home for me yesterday and some photos of the class working on their art. How exciting for Smeralda to see these drawings made just for her. She may not speak or read English well yet, but I think the art of sunshine, flowers and friendships is universal. :)
